The Cocoa Library Café Project
Library Foundation sets goal of $75,000 for planned Library Café!
The Library Café will be the first of its kind in Brevard County. It will be designed to provide a multitude of coffees, pastries, sandwiches, and other special goodies in a sophisticated and comfortable ‘book-store’ like environment. The café will also offer catering for the groups, clubs, agencies, etc. that regularly meet at the Central Library. The Foundation will lease the café‘s daily operations to a vendor (TBA) with the lease income being directed toward library programs initiated by the foundation. These include but are not limited to: The Negroni-Hendrick Mobile Library, Books for Children and Family Reading Festival.
Description of Project: As a part of an expanding trend of placing cafes in local libraries, the café will operate seven days a week with the exception of some holidays. It will provide coffees, pastries and breads, salads, sandwiches, cookies, desserts and other special goodies in a sophisticated and comfortable “bookstore-like” setting. The café will also offer catering services to the multitude of groups that use the library conference rooms.
Café Site: The café will be located in the lobby area adjacent to the main entrance to the Cocoa Central Library. An exterior door will be added to allow for patio seating on the present porch.
Café Operations: The Brevard Library Foundation will contract with a Vendor to operate the café. The role of the foundation will be that of leaser and will be responsible for the operations of the café.
Café Hours: The exact hours of operation will be determined to be most accommodating and anticipated to be open as early as seven a.m. and remaining open into the evening.
Estimated Costs: Preliminary estimates indicate the cost will range from $60,000 to $75,000. This amount includes all equipment, furnishings and other items needed to open and operate a café.
Funding for the Café: The Brevard Library Foundation will generate the needed funds for the café through a capital campaign. Funds will be solicited from individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations in and around Brevard County. All funding will come from the private sector. No county, state or federal funds will be used for this project.
