| More than 3,000 turn out for 2008 countywide reading festival More than 3,000 adults and children flocked to Cocoa Riverfront Park on Saturday, March 1, for the Brevard Library System’s 7th annual day-long Family Reading Festival. The free, community-wide event was made possible in part by a $7,000 grant from the Brevard Library Foundation. Featured at the this year’s festival were bilingual storyteller Connie Sue Ayvar and authors N.E. Bode, Pat Mora and James Grippando. Saturday’s day-long program began at 10 a.m. and ran until 4 p.m. Featured were information booths manned by area companies and service organizations, readings by the featured authors, music, a free internet café, geneaology information, kids’ crafts, a wine tasting, a strolling mariachi band, a Wii tournament and a guitar hero tournament. Also during the event, the library system distributed approximately 2,000 books to children. In addition, the Florida Humanities Council sponsored Jose Marti pre-event programs and the bilingual storyteller.
